Born June 5, 1926, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Walter Daniel and Elizabeth Lona (Patton) Godsey.
He retired from NAD Crane in 1994 after more than 30 years of service working on road and grounds maintenance. He attended Grace Methodist Church in Bedford, and was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Army. He loved to read, watch old westerns and play his guitar.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Godsey of Bedford, whom he married Sept. 18, 1948, in Lawrence County; three sons, Danny Lee Godsey and wife, Lucy, Donald Eugene Godsey and wife, Betty, and Charles Louis "Chuck" Godsey, all of Bedford; four grandchildren, Michael Godsey, Melissa Wray and husband, Tim, Joanna Salvaty and husband, Vito, and Daniel Lee Godsey and wife, Beth; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Evelyn Duncan of Lutz, Fla.; and one brother, Jack Carter of Greenwood.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a half brother, a sister, a brother, a sister in infancy, one granddaughter, Barbara Godsey, and a great-grandson, Daniel Olin Godsey.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home in Bedford. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery in Bedford. Military graveside rites will be accorded by the Gillen Post No. 33 of the American Legion.
