Ex. Mayor of Williamstown Dies at 80

William G. Bailey, 80, a former mayor of Williamstown, died at his home at Fourth St., Williamstown, at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Mr. Bailey was born near Williamstown on Feb. 28, 1868, a son of the late Alonzo P. Bailey and Laura Locker Bailey. He was a lifelong resident of Wood county and was employed through many of his active years as a salesman for Proctor & Gamble. He belonged to the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and the Masons, and was a member of the Williamstown Episcopal church.

In 1893 he married Rose Snodgrass, who died in September 1925. Survivors of this union are two daughters, Mrs. Virginia Goble, of Erie, Pa., and Mrs. Mary Louise Bailey Mayfield, of Seminole, Okla., a son, John S. Bailey, who is a Standard Oil Co. employee in Caripito, Venezuela. Living at the Bailey home Williamstown are two sons of John S. Bailey, John S. Bailey, Jr. and William Bailey.

Other survivors include two brothers, Fred Bailey, of Williamstown, and Charles Bailey of Parkersburg.

Following the death of his first wife, Mrs. Bailey married Stella Johnson in 1927. She preceded him in death in 1944.

The body is at the Hood Funeral Home in Marietta. Funeral arrangements are pending word from John Bailey in Venezuela. The body will be taken this afternoon from the funeral home to the residence.
