Joe Johnson Jr., age 84, passed from this life Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at the Catholic Care Center, Bel Aire, Kan. Joe was born Oct. 7, 1923, in Picher, Okla. to the union of Joseph Harvey and Zelma Irine (Long) Johnson. He was united in marriage Aug. 16, 1946, in Columbus, Kan. to Betty Lou Williams. She precedes him in death. He later remarried on Nov. 9, 1995, in Miami, Okla. to Helen Nadine Decker. Joe worked through his life as a self-employed general contractor. He served his country proudly, while being apart of the United States Army. He was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Baxter Springs, Kan. Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Zelma Johnson; first wife, Betty Lou Johnson; two sisters, Wanda Mae Kidd, and Wilma Williams. Surviving loved ones include Helen Nadine Johnson; two sons, Rodney Dale Johnson and wife, Kerry, of Wichita, Kan.; Gerald Duane Johnson, of Blue Ridge, Texas; three daughters, Rose Marie Lynch and husband, Jack, of Kansas City, Mo.; Brenda Joan Dubois, of Wichita, Kan,; and Diana Kay Hutchinson and husband, John, of Tescott, Kan.; one sister, Colleen Kemmish; Along with nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 26, at The Fellowship Baptist Church in Baxter Springs, Kan. Rev. Jim Bowles will officiate the service. Family will receive friends Monday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel. Burial will be in the Baxter Springs Cemetery.
