James "Jim" Robert Haight, 67, died at his home in Chanute, Kansas, on Thursday, July 18, 2002.

He was born at Emporia, Kansas on July 23, 1934, the son of Carl and Clementine (Alvis) Haight.

He was a graduate of Chanute High School, class of 1952. He graduated from Neosho County Community College in 1954 and attended St. Benedict's College in Atchinson, Kan. with a major in Liberal Arts.

He enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1955 to 1957 at Fort Lee, Virginia as a Private First Class.

In 1973 he married Olive Anne Johnson at Parsons, Kansas. She survives.

He worked as a real estate salesman in Parsons and Pittsburg, KS. The couple moved to Chanute in 1976 to become a partner with his father, Carl, in Midwestern Shelters, Inc. He retired in 1989.

He was a member of Saint Patrick Church and the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Olive; one son, John Haight of Chanute, KS; one sister, Mary Lea Lubbert of Florissant, MO; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Rose Marie Jenkins.

Funeral mass will be celebrated Monday at Saint Patrick Church with Father Thomas Scaletty as celebrant. Burial will follow at Saint Patrick's Cemetery, Chanute, Kansas, with Cecil Meeker, VFW Post 1654, providing military honors.
