Paul Eldred Christensen was born April 5, 1918, in Lyons, Nebraska. He departed this life on March 26, 2002 at the age of 83 years, 11 months and 21 days. The last six months of his life were spent in the Castle Rock Care Center at Castle Rock, Colo.
Paul grew to manhood on his folk's farm east of Lyons, attended Viles Elementary School and graduated from Lyons High School in 1936. He earned a degree in business administration from Midland College in Fremont, Nebraska in 1942.
On October 4, 1941, he married Hazel Hale in her family's farm home near Lyons. To this union five children were born. During their 60 years together Paul and Hazel lived in Lyons, NE, Fremont, NE, Colorado Springs, CO., Anderson, S.C, and Castle Rock, CO.
Paul was an entrepreneur. For thirteen years he served as Mayor of Lyons where he owned and operated the lumberyard, redi-mix plant, grain elevator and several other businesses. He loved to help people. He was a faithful churchgoer and served as an elder in the Presbyterian Church. He spent many years as a Sunday School teacher and church treasurer. He was a long time member of AARP.
After moving to Castle Rock in 1999, Paul's passions were making "moo" magnets at the Senior Center, church on Sunday, and picking up golf balls around his home. He was always ready an hour early.
His parents, Waldo and Dora preceded him in death.
Paul is survived by his wife, Hazel, of Castle Rock; sons, Norman of Smithville, MO, and Marlin of Denver; daughters, Ree Ann Benson of Castle Rock, Terri Geck of Greer, SC, and Peggy Landham of Birmingham, AL; sisters, Ruth Brunton of Osakis, MN, Gladys Wigren of Fremont, NE, and Eleanor Saich of Denver; brother, Franklin of Germantown, MD; nine grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
