MRS. ROBERT C. LYONS
Mrs. Charlotte Elizabeth (Barnes) Lyons, widow of the late Robert C. Lyons, died at her home in Vancleave on March 17, 1936, at 9:30 p.m. The funeral was held the following afternoon at three o'clock, from late home of deceased, proceeding to Mt. Pleasant church, where the service was conducted by Rev. W.H. Van Hook, assisted by Rev. R.L. Vaughn, with interment in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery.
The pallbearers were, Noll Carter, Robert E. Lyons, Joe D. Lyons, Jack King, George Lyons and Oren Carpenter.
Mrs. Lyons was born in Shubuta, Miss., on Dec 15, 1856, being therefore 8o years of age at the time of her death. She moved to Vancleave when a child, and has lived there ever since. She was married in 1878 to Robert C. Lyons of Vancleave, who preceded her to the grave about twenty-five years ago.
She is survived by two daughters and three sons, as follows; Mrs. Joe Q. Graham and Mrs. Ruth Roberts of Vancleave; Edwin R. Lyons of Pascagoula, Herbert L. Lyons of Vancleave, and Norman T. Lyons of Hurley. Also by one brother, Dan Barnes of Vancleave; and 14 grandchildren, and numerous other relatives.
The remote cause of Mrs. Lyons' death was a stroke she had about a year ago, the immediate cause being senile debility.
She was a landmark of her section of the county, a devout member of the Methodist Church and a worker in the religious and social affairs of her community, one of those old-fashioned mothers whose place will not be easily filled in the hearts of her loved ones.
