PFC. BILL ALLISON, 19, KILLED IN VIETNAM WAR, FIRST DECATUR VICTIM
Pfc. Bill E. Allison, 19, well known Decatur young man, son of Dr. and Mrs. R. E. Allison, 536 Limberlost Trail, became this city's first combat death of the war in Vietnam when he was killed at 12:55 p.m. Sunday.
He was the second Adams county youth to die in action in Vietnam.
The Army notified Dr. and Mrs. Allison Tuesday that their son was a passenger in a military vehicle on combat operation when engaged in fighting with hostile forces when he suffered the fatal wounds. No further details have been received by the family.
The youth's father is a prominent Decatur veterinarian and a member of the Decatur city council.
The young war victim was born Dec. 22, 1947, a son of Dr. Ralph E. and Eileen Windross-Allison. He attended the Decatur high school and was employed as a lineman with the Citizens Telephone System, Inc., prior to entering service.
ENLISTED IN NOVEMBER
He enlisted Nov. 3, 1966, and received his basic training at Fort Knox, Ky. Jan. 20 of this year he was transferred to Fort Polk, La., for jungle training, and was sent overseas April 11 of this year.
He was with Co. D., 151st bn., 8th Cavalry of the 1st Cavalry division.
Pfc. Allison was a member of the First Baptist church in this city, and was engaged to marry Miss Linda Schaffer of this city.
The youthful veteran is survived by his parents; one brother, Michael C. Allison, at home; one sister, Mrs. Ann Poage of La Junta, Colo.; the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Windress [sic] of Blanchester, O., and the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Allison of Morrow, O.
The body will be brought to the Zwick funeral home in this city for funeral services and burial in the Decatur cemetery.
