She was the daughter of John Joseph(?) (1852-1923) and Sarah Ann McGinnis (1855-1902) Maloney.

Her mother died in 1902 and her Aunt 'Bid' Bridget Bowers (her mother's sister) raised her and her eight brothers and sisters.
