Ed Buchanan was born in Missouri to George Buchanan and Maria Lucinda Basinger. He married Elma Edmisten July 23, 1899, Long Lane, Missouri.
In 1901 they moved to Rogers County, Oklahoma where they farmed for several years. They then moved to Claremore where Ed operated a transfer company. He later was on the city police force.
