Kenneth Lloyd Skolte, 88, Wadena, died Tuesday, August 19 of complications following surgery.

He was born June 14, 1920 to Norwegian immigrants John and Nettie (Viste) Skolte in a log cabin near Radisson,Wisconsin. He farmed near Rose Creek, MN, until moving to Bertha in 1955 where he farmed until retiring. He also worked on road construction crews and at the Staples Box Factory. He moved to Staples in 1980, then to Wadena in 1985.

Ken worked at various Green Thumb positions in and around the Wadena area, as well as Swift Industries in Frazee. Ken enjoyed auction sales, reading, recipes, a good story, playing cards, and being around children. He especially enjoyed "Tuesdays with Ken" at Boondocks Café. He liked to share his clever wit with anyone that would listen.

His oldest son Tim preceded him in death on June 14, 2007. He is survived by his children Deb (Mike) Johnson, Bryant, Arkansas; Jim (Lynette) Skolte, Mora; Elaine (Phil) Martinez, Vacaville, CA; Frank (Joleen) Skolte, Frazee; Keith (Julie) Skolte, Mahtowa; Kathy (Bill) Kokesh, Cambridge; Becky (Mark) Lein, Williams; Dan Skolte, Belview; Joe (Joan) Skolte, Welch, (formerly of Cannon Falls); Gail Cannon, Belview; Cindy (Jim) Zetah, Seward, NE; 30 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; several special kids who knew him as "Grandpa Ken," and many friends from the Greenwood Apartments where he resided.

A memorial service and luncheon will be held on Friday, August 29 at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2nd St. SE, Wadena. Interment will be a private family service at Vaale Lutheran Cemetery, Brainerd.
