2 Occupants of Nursing Home Room Succumb Within an Hour

CHARLES CITY - Two elderly women in the same room at the deBuhr Nursing home here died within an hour of each other Sunday.

While a local physician was calling on Mrs. Vernice Dawley, 89, who had suffered a cerebral hemorrhage at the home, Mrs. A. C. Sweeney, 90, collapsed and died.

Mrs. Dawley was taken to the Cedar Valley hospital where she died shortly after.

Services for Mrs. Dawley will be held at the Hauser funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. A.C. Wegner, pastor of the Open Bible church, officiating and burial will be in the Howardville Cemetery in Howardville.

Mrs. Dawley was married to Hubert Dawley, whom she divorced.

Two sisters, Mrs. Fred Rivers, Charles City, and Mrs. Nettie Kearney, Grand Rapids, Minn., survives. She had been a resident of Charles City since 1921. She was preceded in death by a daughter, a son, three brothers and three sisters.
