Ivan Yuel Duke, son of James and Jennie Duke, was born October 12, 1901 at Castleton, Kansas. He died Saturday, December 19, 1981, at Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City following a sudden illness. He was 72 years of age, 2 months and 7 days.
When Ivan was four years of age, the Duke family moved to Oklahoma, settling in Dewey County. He was raised on a farm southeast of Seiling and attended school at both Campbell and Seiling.
On May 3, 1931, he was united in marriage to Marie Mayfield at Taloga. They made their home south of Seiling where Ivan was engaged in farming.
He is survived by his wife, Marie of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Paul (LaVere) Cash of Cherokee; three sons, Paul Gene and Chuck Alan both of Seiling and Hershel Duane of Yukon; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Violet Trainer and Mrs. Pansy Nash both of Seiling and Mrs. Inez Turlington of Big Springs, Texas. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Fern Knott.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 22, 1981 at the Redinger Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Orville White and Fred Hambrick.
