Walter H. Cowan
Waynetown---Walter H. Cowan, 96, of Tomball, Texas, died at 11:30 p.m., Monday in Winslow Memorial Nursing Home, at Tomball.
He had taught school and served as principal in many of the schools in this area. He started teaching at Waynetown in 1911, and also taught in Breaks School. He moved to Florida in 1927 and retired from the Florida State School System in 1953. He was a member of the Methodist Church in Tampa, Fla. Mr. Cowan was educated in Breaks School, was a graduate of Wabash College and received his master's degree from Florida State College.
He was born October 22, 1887, at Crawfordsville, a son of James N. and Margaret Ellen Messmore Cowan. He was married to Eula Belle Walker on Feb. 4, 1920. She died Aug. 28, 1973. Surviving are two sons, Richard of Washington D.C. and James of Houston,Texas; a daughter, Mrs. Martha Turner of Melburn, Fla.; 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Thomas Funeral Home. Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to services.
