Leroy F. Biernacki died Oct. 4, 2004 in Walsenburg, CO. Mr. Biernacki was born Nov. 2, 1920, in Miniola, Kan., to Frank and Rose (Wolf) Biernacki.

On Nov. 9, 1942, he married Edna Billinger.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church on the Finance Council and was a Eucharistic Minister and an active member of the church. He worked at the Colorado State Penitentiary for 13 years as a counselor and worked as a farmer, rancher and cowboy.

He served in the Army from Jan. 7, 1943 to March 31, 1946, with an honorable discharge. He earned a Good Conduct Medal, American Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He served in the Pacific Theater for seven months and was foreman of the machine shop.

He is survived by his wife; eight children, Ellen Miller, Leroy Biernacki Jr., Katherine Vernetti, Ken Biernacki, Adair Biernacki, Doug Biernacki, Bernard Biernacki, and Theodore Biernacki; three brothers, Fred Biernacki, Ed Biernacki, and Ivan Biernacki; three sisters, Rosella Billinger, Evelyn Biernacki and Sister Francis Biernacki; 20 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; two sons and two grandchildren.
