Archie Thomas Eckenrode, 90, of Hazen, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006, at his residence. He was father of Linda Clemens of Sheridan. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Salem United Methodist Church in Hazen with the Rev. Steve Behrens officiating. Burial will be in the Hazen City Cemetery under direction of Seibel Funeral Home of Hazen. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Eckenrode was born Jan. 28, 1916, in Hensler, N.D., to Jacob and Lora (Gregory) Eckenrode. He grew up on the family farm in Fort Clark, N.D., and attended schools in Fort Clark and Jamestown, N.D. He married Louise Bieber on May 23, 1947, in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Center, N.D. He worked for Mike Thiel Construction for 17 years. He joined West River Telephone in 1962 and was a lineman until an accident in 1965. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church. He was an avid fisherman, a Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings fan and enjoyed playing cards and games, including bingo, and an occasional trip to the casino. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. Other survivors include his wife; three other daughters, Shirley Eckenrode of Bismarck, N.D., and Irene Beckman and Sheila Milbradt, both of Hazen; two sons, Jake of Phoenix and David of Bismarck; and nine grandchildren.
