Mother Dies, Son Is Killed Following Day
A Florida man en route to Charleston for his mother's funeral was fatally injured early this morning in an automobile accident in Mobile, AL.

He was Floyd S. Batton, of Tampa. His mother, Mrs. Edith Batton, a former Charleston resident, died Tuesday in a nursing home in Mobile.

Wilson Funeral Home attendants said they were notified in a telephone call from a trucking company in Alabama of the son's death this morning. The caller said Batton died in a hospital shortly after the wreck. His wife, traveling with him, reportedly was not injured.

Services for the mother are scheduled Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Cunningham Memorial Park at St. Albans.

Her body is due to arrive in Charleston tomorrow morning.
No other details on the son's accident or arrangements were available in Charleston today.

The mother, 83, was the widow of Joseph T. Batton a Charleston man, who died in 1943.

Surviving are two other sons, Ernest L. of Poca, and Ralph M. of Fayetteville; a sister, Mrs. Sallie Calloway of Charleston; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Dies on Way To Mothers Funeral
MOBILE, Ala. (UPI)
A highway accident Wednesday near here resulted in the death of a man enroute to Charleston, W. Va., to attend his mother's funeral.

Floyd S. Batton, of Tampa, Fla., was struck and killed by a truck as he stepped out of his car to get some gasoline.

His mother, Mrs. Edith Batton, 84, is to be buried at Charleston today. A former resident of Charleston, she died Tuesday in a Mobile nursing home.
