SSG Harry J. Farrell Jr was a member of a B26 Bomber crew that was killed on 31 May 1943 at about 2PM during a training accident while flying hooded on instraments and during a heavy electrical and rain storm. The plane crashed near Bradentown (now Bradenton), FL. He and the other crew members were all killed. SSG Farrell was the aircraft's Flight Engineer. His fellow crew members were 2LT George J. Ganow (Pilot of Binghamton, New York), 2LT Joseph O. Esser Jr. (Co-Pilot of Milwaukee, Wisconsin), 2LT Charles H. Carroll (Navigator of Bibb County, Georgia) and my grandfather 2LT William Mertens Williamson (Bombadier of Detroit, Michigan and Patton, PA). The B-26 they were killed in had the tail number of 41-17477. This information is taken from the Army Air Corps' offical Report of Aircraft Accident (#42081) dated 12 June 1943, of which I have a copy and can provide via email. All crew members were assigned to the 398th Bomb Squadron (Medium), 21st Bomb Group (Medium) and stationed at MacDill Field (now MacDill Air Force Base).
SSG Harry Farrell Jr. Enlisted on 16 April 1942 for the duration of the war plus six months. He was a great American who unfortunately was killed before he could fight for his country.
