Calvin was a United States Navy veteran having served during WWII. He was a lifelong farmer and cattleman in Bedford County. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, Calvin was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Wanda Hazelle Fullen Abbott; two brothers, George Carlyle Abbott and Thomas Edward Abbott. He is survived by one son, C. Wayne Abbott and wife, Barbara, of Forest; two daughters, Joyce A. Ruff and husband, Richard, of Goode, Brenda A. Davis and husband, Perry, of Forest; four grandchildren, Kristen Graham, Dwayne Abbott, Brandon Davis and Jennifer Patterson; five step-grandchildren, Pam Dyba, Rita Parker, Angie Gerni, Melissa Gaddy and Greg Davis; four great-grandchildren, Jarred Patterson, Luke Patterson, Kayla Patterson, and Everett Graham; eight step-great grandchildren, Sam Dyba, Jacob Dyba, Luke Dyba, Kelsey Gerni, Sophia Gerni, Emma Gerni, Isabella Parker and Evie Davis; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, at Virginia Memorial Park with the Rev. Mark Flores officiating.
