THE DAILY JOURNAL, dtd. 09/10/2008
"Michael Serkanic, 26, son, brother, fiance, friend and fourth year dental student died Aug. 26, 2008.
Mike led a life of celebration, dedication to dentistry and compassion for the less fortunate. He taught us great things in his short life combining hard work with fun, true friendship and love of people. He was instrumental in starting the Vibe while growing up in Foster City, and had planned to start a practice providing dental care to the less fortunate after graduation from the Arizona School of Dentistry this year.
Mike spent six weeks working full-time on rotation in a dental clinic in Gonzales, Texas and drove back to Arizona arriving on the morning of Aug. 23. He was greeted by his Rachel and after only a 15-minute reunion, had a cardiac arrest and slipped into a coma never to recover. Doctors say there was nothing that could have been done to prevent this loss. Mike's memory, spirit, positive attitude and dedication to personal excellence will lift us all and make us smile now and in the future. We would all be fortunate to: "Be like Mike."
A tribute and memorial to Michael will be held by his family and friends in the Foster City Recreation Center, Lagoon Room at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13. All those who knew Michael and would like to commemorate his passing are welcome".
