SISSETON — Myron L. Aadland, 68, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008.

Graveside services will be Sunday in the Sisseton Cemetery with the Rev. Vern Donnell officiating.

Visitation in the Cahill Funeral Chapel in Sisseton.

He was born Nov. 8, 1939, in Sisseton to Leroy and Clara Aadland. He grew up with two brothers and three sisters.

He married Arlene Ann Pettie from Bottineau, N.D., in 1958, and then moved to Seattle with their first born, Rhonda Kaye in 1960, to seek greater opportunities. He began working for Manson Construction when their second child, Randy was born in 1961. Two years later, their third child, Sharlene Gail was born. He worked in Alaska rebuilding bridges and docks after the devastating earthquakes. With a true entrepreneur spirit, an American work ethic and a can-do attitude, he along with his lifelong friend from Sisseton, Donald Rice, purchased Suburban Paving and enjoyed financial success with his wife of 42 years,Arlene Aadland. Later, in 1998 Myron retired from the asphalt paving business.

In retirement, Myron expanded his enjoyment for flying by purchasing a helicopter. During this time, he met Marilyn Martinez of Vashon Island. Together they enjoyed traveling, fishing, boating and living in Olalla, Wash. They spent many joyful times with their dogs, Teddy-bear and Smokey-bear, and most recently with Yogi-bear and Sophie.

He was an avid outdoorsman who hunted and fished in many corners of the planet. He also enjoyed and excelled in snow skiing. His first flight was July 30, 1977, and later he purchased a float plane.

Survivors include his girlfriend, Marilyn Martinez of Olalla; and his children, Eldest daughter Rhonda Kaye of Pine Ridge, son Randall Aadland of Kirkland, Wash., and youngest daughter, Sharlene Aadland of Woodinville, Wash.; and five grandchildren. Randy and Rhonda's children in order of ages; Nicholas(Nick)Aadland, Anthony(Tony)Aadland, and Vanessa Aadland. Rhonda's children, Caitlin Hardy and Jack(John Paul)Hardy.

The Kitsap County sheriff's office says a pilot killed in a private helicopter crash is believed to be 68-year-old Myron Aadland. Aadland was flying to his house in Olalla, Wash., where he had built a helicopter landing pad.
