Albert W. Baker Sr., 77, of Elizabethtown died at 5:44 a.m. Friday, Oct. 24, 1997, at his home.

He was a self-employed excavation contractor with Baker's Bulldozing and Excavation.

He was an electrician on a submarine in the Navy during World War II and was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Myers Funeral Service, Reed and Jewell Chapel on 25th Street, with the Rev. Gary Cooper officiating. Calling will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday and from noon until service time Monday. Entombment will be at Garland Brook Mausoleum. Military graveside rites will be conducted by members of the VFW, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Bartholomew County or Just Friends Adult Day Care.

Mr. Baker was born in Jackson County Aug. 22, 1920, the son of Samuel William and Nellie Borders Baker. He married Josephine C. Ballard March 9, 1946. She survives.

Additional survivors include a daughter, Dianne Bock of Hope; sons, Albert W. Baker Jr. of Terre Haute, John S.M. Baker of Rockville and Michael R. Baker of Columbus; grandchildren, Kimberly, Jonathan, Daniel, Andy, Brad, Zachary, Katie, Amanda and Michael Baker Jr.; a brother, Edgar Baker of Seymour; sisters, Flossie Maynard of Muncie, Inez Lloyd of Seymour and Joyce Burton of Columbus; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Hazel Barrett and Violet Emmons.
