Amanda Elizabeth Giles of Quitman went to be with her Lord on Friday, August 29, 2008 after a three year courageous battle with Neuroblastoma, a rare childhood cancer. Born December 27, 1982, in Searcy, AR to Susan Ann (Todd) and John Edwin Giles, Jr.; she was 25 years of age.

Amanda was a member of Palestine Baptist Church and a student at Arkansas Tech University. She was a senior double-majoring in Wellness Science and Kinesiology. Amanda was also a member of a Relay for Life team at Tech. While at Tech, Amanda participated in intramural sports, was a member of the Kinesiology Club, and served as

the President of the Caraway Hall Government. Amanda played basketball in high school and then at the collegiate level at Central Baptist College before transferring to ATU. She received numerous awards during her 10 year span of play, including being recognized as the All-State Outstanding Player of the Year, and was All-State as well as All-Region.

She was a 2001 honor graduate of Quitman High School and received numerous academic awards. She was a member of the BETA Club, FBLA, FCCLA, and the Student Council. Amanda was a lover of all animals, especially any stray animal! Amanda grew up on a farm, always having a special spot in the garden for her sunflowers and was a self-professed "tom-boy", not that she could help it with three brothers! She enjoyed children, playing sports, and spending time visiting and playing games with family and friends. Amanda had an amazing creative ability for crocheting, drawing painting and designing almost anything. Her happy and courageous disposition and courageous effort to defeat her illness endeared her to those who knew and loved her, especially those nurses and doctors at Arkansas Children's Hospital and at the Methodist Children's Cancer and Research Center in San Antonio, Texas, where she had two transplants and numerous treatments. A motto in Amanda's life was "Be kind to a stranger for you just might be entertaining an angel." Amanda is now truly God's angel, and she will be exceedingly missed.

She is also survived by three brothers, Robert Todd Giles (her twin) and his wife Ashlee of Bismarck, Jonathan Daniel Giles of Quitman, Jason Edward Giles and his wife Rachel of Heber Springs, her fiance, SSgt. Matthew Vincent Pukas of Little Rock AFB, two nieces Shelby Giles and Kaiya Giles, two nephews Noah and Braiden Giles, other relatives and a host of many friends. Amanda was preceded in death by her brother Michael Lee Giles, grandparents Charlie Daniel and Ethel Marie Todd of Quitman and John Edwiti and Blanch Irene Giles of Malvern.
