Thomas married Susanna Bowman and they had 5 children: John, Sarah, George, Elizabeth and Dr. Samuel Shuman.
Born in New York, by the time Thomas was 21 years old he was buying land in Elizabeth Town, Maryland (later to become Hagerstown). Until his death at 64 years old, he bought and sold many parcels in Hagerstown including residential and commercial buildings which he rented (he left 5 properties in his Will). He also ran a tavern, a coppersmith business (Thomas' father was a tinner), and a dry goods and groceries store next to the public square. Thomas was also a prominent citizen of Hagerstown and was elected as a commissioner.
Thomas was my 3rd Great Grandfather.
