Vickie Ruth Moon, age 47 years, 9 months, and 3 days, was born June 15, 1960, in Beloit, Kansas, and departed this life on March 18, 2008, at Mitchell Co. Hospital, Beloit, Kansas. The last 7 ½ months of her life were spent in hospitals and Hilltop Lodge. Vickie was born to J.E. Moon, Jr. and Vivian Ruth (Carpenter) Moon. She had 1 brother, John Edward (Jack) Moon; and 2 sisters, Janet Kay Helvey and Betty Lou Thompson. She was baptized March 6, 1966, at the Harmony United Methodist Church Mankato, and confirmed September 29, 1985, at this same church. She loved going to church and singing.

Vickie lived in Mankato with her parents until age 7. At age 7 she went to live at Martin Luther Home, Beatrice Nebraska, where she stayed until age 18. From age 18 until August, 2008, she was with OCCK of Salina, Beloit and Concordia. Because she was a special downs syndrome child, her parents believed it was very important that she be given the opportunity to learn as much as any other child. Because of this special education she was able to read, write, live alone and have several jobs. She had a very enriched and enjoyable life. Vacations with family, and OCCK trips took her to Disney World, Hawaii, Graceland, and Tampa, Florida, as well as many concerts and dances. Vickie also participated in many Special Olympics which she enjoyed tremendously. She was always very willing to help her fellow friends at OCCK. She loved sharing holidays, birthday parties and special time with family and OCCK friends.

She was preceded in death by both parents and her brother Jack. She leaves to mourn: sister, Janet Helvey, Glen Elder, Kansas; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Butch Thompson, Mankato, Kansas; nieces and nephews: Toni & Ron Schlaefli, Josh, Cody & Tyea and John, Cawker City, Kansas; Jacque & Rick Moore, Rikki and Kylie, Glen Elder, Kansas; Clay & Lisa Helvey, Caitlyn, Courtney and Clifton, Omaha, Nebraska; Jeri & Tracy Bryant, Cole and Makenzi, Winchester, Kansas; Amy & Tate Kerst, Brandon, Taran and Stephanie, Amarillo, Texas; Richard & Pam Thompson, and Riley, Pratt, Kansas; Casey & Shad Coulson, Shayne and Mya, Prescott Valley, Arizona; many cousins, and a very dear friend Charlotte Roe, Mankato; and her extended family and friends at OCCK, Salina, Concordia and Beloit.
