Henry Jacob Fell was the son of Henry Jacob Fell Sr and Mary Madgalena Flickenger. He immigrated with his parents from Germany at the age of 6 years. The family moved to Loudon, Seneca County, Ohio.

Henry served in the Civil War starting in August, 1862 for Combany B 55th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was discharged in June, 1865.

After the war Henry married Elizabeth T. Maurer, the daugher of Albert Maurer and Louisa Sage, on July 27, 1865 in Arcadia, Hancock County, Ohio.
The couple moved to Newark, Gratiot County, Michigan soon after their marriage, and lived there the rest of their lives.

Henry was a farmer, and also served as a Highway Commissioner 1879-1880 and Justice of the Peace.

Henry and Elisbeth had ten children, William Sherman 1866, Albert Henry 1868-1869, Mary Ellen 1869, Emily Minnie Jane 1873, Egbert Erven 1874, Leroy Jacob 1877, infant 1880-1880, Alston Arthur 1882, Ruby May 1884, and Howard Raymond 1887.

After Elizabeth died in 1892, Jacob married Phebe Elizabeth Meracle Shaw on November 1, 1893 in Vassar, Tuscola, Michigan.
