Drafted into the U.S. Army on June 1, 1945 and served 6 months. He retired from the Cooperative Refinery after 36 years of service in 1979. He carved wood as a hobby and has served as a 4-H leader for 16 years. He and his wife, Lorene lived southwest of Coffeyville, Kansas for over 40 years.

Mr. and Mrs. Glen WllIiam Lewis of Route 1 will be honored on their. 40th wedding anniversary Sunday, July 20, with an open house at First United Methodist Church.
Hosts for the reception, scheduled between 2-4 p.m. in the church parlor, will be their five children, Mrs. John (Phyllis) Beeson, James Lewis and Mrs. Clark (Judith) Poole, all of Coffeyville; Donald Lewis of Neodesha; and Gerald Lewis of Chanute. Also assisting will be the couple's six grand­children. The honorees request the omission of gifts. .
Glen Lewis and Lorene Anna Pitzer were married July 20, 1940, by a Justice of the Peace in Hutchinson, Kan. They have spent the past 35 years at their present home southwest of Coffeyville.
Lewis attended Coffeyville schools and was employed by Ludowici-Celadon Co. here until 1941 when he went to work for National Refining Co., later CRA; Inc. Except for six months in the United States Army in 1943, he worked for CRA 36 years, retiring in 1978 as supervisor of the wax caking department.
Mr. and Mrs. Lewis are avid campers and are members of National Campers and Hikers Association, the local Chief Black Dog Campers and are presently serving as field directors for four NCHA Chapters, the Kanoliners of Caney, Baxter Springs Miners, The Coffey Kans and Chief Black Dog of Coffeyville.
They served as leaders of the Bob White 4-H Club in the James Community 17 years and Mrs. Lewis is a long-time member of Loyal Workers Extension Homemakers Unit. Both are members of First Methodist Church.
Lewis' hobbies are fishing, camping, hunting and whittling. Hers are sewing, crafts and camping.
