Melvin Ingersoll
GALENA, Kan. — Melvin W. Ingersoll, 73, 2317 Main St., died about 6 p.m. Thursday at St. John’s Regional Medical Center, Joplin, Mo., after an illness.
Mr. Ingersoll was born May 31, 1914, at Joplin. He had resided in Galena since 1964. moving from Baxter Springs. He retired in March 1978 as a machinist at the Vickers Inc. plant at Joplin. He was a member of Empire Mission Church, Galena.
He married Ruby Walkenshaw on March 30, 1960, in Galena. She survives.
Additional survivors include four sons, Larry Ingersoll, Diamond, Mo.. Kenneth Ingersoll and Max Ingersoll, both of Joplin, and Melvin W. Ingersoll Jr., Riverton; a stepson, Bill Walkenshaw, Riverton; a daughter, Leona Hardesty, Carthage, Mo.; a brother, Clarence Ingersoll, Mission; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Derfelt Funeral Home. The Rev. Bob Winnett will officiate. Burial will be in Pence Cemetery, near Baxter Springs.
Pallbearers will be Steve Walkenshaw, Merl Mallett, Rick Alumbaugh, Otto Hodges, Mark Bell and Dave Bentley.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
