Rev. Roger Newton immigrated to America and was in the Senior Class at Harvard College by 1640. He studied with Rev. Thomas Hooker in Hartford, Conn and married his oldest daughter, Mary Hooker in about 1644 at Hartford.
He founded the church at Farmington, Conn. and was their first minister, ordained October 13, 1652. He was in Farmington until 1657. He embarked for England, but came back to Boston during the passage. After his return, he went to Milford in the colony of Conn. and was installed in the Milford Church on August 22, 1660 as it's second pastor. After serving there for 23 years, he died in 1683. Buried in"Founders' Cemetery" along the banks of the Wepawaug River. A memorial was placed at Founders Memorial Bridge in 1889 and was paid for by the citizens and founding descendants of Milford.
