Much Respected Citizen Dies (Sullivan News, 14 Feb 1935)
Mrs. Viola Mayberry Crow died Wednesday, February 6, 1935 at the home of Miss Nellie B. Smith in Sullivan, following an illness of three weeks. She was born October 28, 1873.
Mrs. Crow came to this community about sixteen years ago from Madison, Illinois, and had lived here most of the time since. She formed many friendships here, and was particularly known in this localith for her spirit of generosity and helpfulness to the needy, and fairness in her many business dealings.
The body was prepared at the Williams Undertaking Parlor in Sullivan and removed to the Valhalla Crematory in St. Louis, where it was cremated Friday, and, in compliance with her request, the ashes were scattered from Eads Bridge upon the waters of the Mississippi River.
Mrs. Crow is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Lillian Botkin of Greenwood, Mississippi; a step-daughter, Mrs. Albin Bergstrom of Omaha, Nebraska; two sisters, Mrs. Oma Reynolds of Spokane, Washington, and Mrs. Delta Fabian of Mount Crawford, Virginia, and one half-brother, Mike Mayberry of Sullivan. A grand daughter, Miss Dorothy Bodkin, resided with Mrs. Crow at Sullivan this winter, but returned to her parents when ill health forced Mrs. Crow to give up her home.
