Youngest son of Wm. M. and Elizabeth Hunt, born near Lebanon, Tenn., Wilson Co. Father died when William was quite young and he was raised by an uncle Nicholas Hunt. He was disinherited by this uncle when he was caught teaching the slaves to read the Bible. Came to Franklin Co, Ill. in 1829 to join his 2 older brothers, Zion and Zaduck. Began teaching school at age 16. Became postmaster after 1854-later Postmaster in Marion after 1868. He served in the Civil War although he was past 50 as Sergeant enlisting Jan. 10, 1862 in Co. E 60th Reg. Ill. vol. Inf. Served as civil engineer. In 1865 he was elected co. clerk of Williamson Co.

3. 1866 to Emily (McCoy) White (1828-1895)
