"YOUNG MAN DIED OF SHOT WOUND"
James Robertson Wittliff, 22, died Tuesday night in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank J. Wittliff, 4401 Gratiot Avenue, as a result of a bullet wound.
James was evidently cleaning his .22 caliber rifle when it accidentally discharged. Corner Arthur E. Smith declared today. Corner Smith was called with Sheriff Ferris e. Lucas to investigate the accident. The boy died a few minutes after the bullet entered his chest, Mr. Smith said. The Corner said no inquest will be held.
James was born March 29, 1924 in Port Huron. Where he lived all his life. He was graduated in 1944 by Port Huron High School, where he was a member of Lambda Sigma Chi fraternity.
The remains are in the Arthur Smith funeral home, where funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday. Very Rev. Dean Austin E. DuPlan, rector of Grace Episcopal church, will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.
James is survived by his parents, a brother William W. Wittliff, and his grandmothers, Mrs. John S. Wittliff and Mrs. L.W. Cumming, all of Port Huron.
