Charlie Allen Died July 22 At Age 87

Funeral services for Charlie Allen, widely-known resident of Madison county, were held Tuesday morning, July 25, from Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.

Mr. Allen died at his home, 519 East Green, on Saturday July 22nd. He was 87 years of age.

A life-long resident of Madison county, he was born June 10, 1891, a son of Elmer and Mary Landers Allen.

He was married to Anna Beatrice Hildebrand on Oct. 13, 1920 at Adel, Iowa.

For many years "Charlie" was a heavy equipment operator for the Madison county secondary roads department, serving at one time as a grading crew foreman. In later years he was a dozer operator for Gendler Central Construction of Indianola, plus other private contractors.

He is survived by his wife, Anna; two sons, Charles Wayne Allen of St. Charles and Robert Allen of Winterset; four daughters, Eldora Parker, Doris Olsen, Vivian Orr and Emogene Lehman, all of Winterset; a brother, Millard Allen of Winterset; 13 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Anna Margaret Flesher; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; three brothers, Fred, Hiram and Frank; and one sister, Eliza Hildebrand.

Officiating at the funeral Tuesday morning was the Rev. Charles Updike. Burial was in the North McDonald Cemetery.
