Jack was born March 26, 1930, to Glenn and Viola "Lola" Easterly in a small house Southwest of Sidney. He grew up farming with his parents. He graduated from Sidney High School in 1947 and from the University of Nebraska with an Associates Degree in Agriculture in 1949. He was one of the founders of the University of Nebraska flying club and obtained his pilot's license while attending the University. In August 1950, he married Janice L. Maag. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955 and was stationed in Kansas and Louisiana as a heavy artillery mechanic.
After his discharge from the service, he returned to the family farm west of Lorenzo where he raised wheat and millet. He enjoyed designing and building some equipment for his farm operation and working in his farm shop. His involvement in the community included serving on the Lorenzo school board, Lorenzo Farmer's Union Co op board, numerous church committees, and proudly attending his children's' and grandchildren's' activities. He was a member of the Peetz American Legion.
Besides farming, Jack enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling with his wife to all 50 states and beyond and square dancing with local clubs. During his "semiretirement" years he enjoyed flying his radio controlled airplanes near their winter home in Phoenix, Arizona.
Jack is survived by his wife, Janice of Sidney; children Joslyn (Joe) Causey of Phoenix, Susan (Bob) Walker of Denver, Scott (Jane) Easterly of Sidney and Gayle (Gary) McKenzie of Phoenix; sister Marian Hiett of Sidney and eight grandchildren: Brent and Jared Causey; Dwight, Nick and Robin Easterly; Gentry Walker; and Dana and Turner McKenzie.
