OBITUARY Fort Wayne News Sentinel (IN), Monday, May 11, 1931, Page 9, col. 3 CIVIL WAR VET SUCCUMBS. - Nathan Thorp, Aged 83, Dies of Senility at Residence here. Nathan Thorp, aged 83, vetern of the Civil War, succumbed to senility this morning, at 1:15 o'clock at the residence, 416 Huffman Street. He had been in failing health for the last eight years. Mr. Thorp had lived in Fort Wayne since the Civil War. He enlisted in Company K, first regiment, Indiana heavy artillery at Decatur on September 16, 1864, and was discharged from the Union Army at New Orleans on July 20, 1865. He was a member of Bass-Lawton Post, G. A. R., here. Mr. Thorp was born in Decatur County. Surviving are the wife, Ida C.; three daughters, Mrs. Ann Gebhart, of this city; Mrs. Rachel Petro, of Kansas City, MO., and Mrs. Ida Appleton, of Toledo, OH; a sister, Mrs. Maggie Fling, of Indianapolis, IN; nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. The body was removed to the Mungovan & Sons' Funeral Parlors, 260 744 2114. or (Tom Mungovan (260) 744-4124) Prairie Grove Cem.

Age 83. Senility. Might be buried next to first wife Mary without a stone.

Grandparents might be Nathan Thorp I born ABT 1795, died 1874. (1840 and 1850 Decatur Co, IN census shows sons Chauncey and Daniel are with Nathan Sr.

COURT NOTES: Nathan Thorp was arrested for failure to take down the screens in his saloon after closing hours and gave a cash bond of $50 for his appearance.

Nathan and Ida Thorp sold part of section 15, Wayne Twp, for $2,800 to William Hunsche and Maggie Reber (F.W. Daily News, Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1909).
