"Lou" was the daughter of Ewell Lampkin Cole and Caroline Isabella Haifleigh. She was born in Lake Charles, Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana but moved to Gonzales County, Texas with her family in about 1869. She married John Fletcher Henson on May 9, 1878. They would have 6 children: Addie Bell, James Rufus, John Fletcher, Robert Lee, Lillie & Carrie Louise. She was preceeded in death by her husband.
