Obit Wilber Hieber
Wilber Bucy Hieber, 81, died Saturday. April 8, 1995 at the Valley View Loving Care Home, surrounded by family and friends. Services were at the chapel at Terrace Heights Memorial Park, Yakima, Wash., where he was buried.
He was born Dec. 5, 1913 on a farm near Decatur, the son of George and Jessie Bucy Hieber. He attended Fairview District 8 School and graduated from Riverside High School in 1934. He was baptized at Riverside Baptist Church as a young man.
Hieber loved the outdoors and spent many happy hours hunting and fishing in Lake Quinnebaugh and the Missouri River, according to family members. He started farming with his father. June 4, 1938, he married Mary C. Morrow in Riverside Church. They farmed near Craig and later moved to the Riverside community.
As a result of brain surgery, Hieber was forced to sell their farm in 1957 and buy a dairy farm in Minnesota. In 1960 they sold this farm and moved to New York Mills, Minn., where he worked in a creamery.
The couple moved to Yakima, Wash. In the fall of 1964, where he suffered a heart attack. He slowly recovered until he could work part-time. Mrs. Hieber died on March 24, 1978, at which time their daughter and husband moved to Yakima to care for her father. In 1994 Hieber entered a small care center where he enjoyed visiting with residents and making a great pet of the owners' dog.
Wilber was affiliated with the Mt. Olive Lutheran Church of Yakima and was a member of the Congregational Church in Minnesota. He was also a former member of the Masonic Lodge.
Wilber was an avid baseball fan and had played in his earlier years.
His parents; wife; Mary, whom he missed very much and always looked forward to the time he could join her. A sister, Ruby; and brother-in-law, Norval Teeters, all preceded him in death.
Survivors include a son, Lyle; daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Dale Rowley; and grandson, Jason Rowley, all of Yakima; sister, Gladys Everett; sisters and brothers-in-law, Iva Arnold and Margaret and Floyd Hale, all of Lyons, Florence Mack of Tacoma, Wash., Ella McCluskey of Issaquah, Wash., Ruth Morrow of Los Gatos, Calif., and Irene Morrow of Story City, Iowa; nieces and nephews.
