Mary Rose Sorel native of Holyoke

Mary Rose (Chalifoux) Sorel, 81, of 36 Pines Lodge Park, Williamstown, died suddenly today at her home. She was the the wife of Eli Sorel who died in 1951.

She worked for many years at the former Berkshire Fine Spinning in Greylock and then in Adams until she retired.

She was a communicant of St. Raphael`s Church, Williamstown. She had been a former longtime member of Notre Dame Church, North Adams.

Born in Holyoke, Dec. 2, 1898, she was a daughter of Louis and Cordelia (Coderre) Chalifoux. The family moved to North Adams. She moved to Williamstown two and a half years ago.

She leaves two daughters, Elsie Cote, with whom she made her home and Dorothy Parker of North Adams; a son, Robert Sorel of Westfield; two brothers, Henry Chalifoux of North Adams and Adelord Chalifoux of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Taunton; and 12 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Saturday at 9:15 a.m. at the Flynn & Dagnoli Montagna Home for Funerals, North Adams. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Raphael`s Church, Williamstown. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery, North Adams.

Calling hours are Friday from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Flowers may be sent or donations in her memory may be made to the American Heart Fund.
