María Serafina de la Luz Váldez y Quintero was born at Santa Bárbara on September 1 and baptized in the Presidio Chapel September 4, 1788 (BP Baptism 00054). She was the daughter of soldado Eugenio Váldez y Fernández and María Anastacia Fabiana Sebastiana Quintero y Rubio. María Serafina married soldado José Manuel Machado y Valenzuela at Mission San Gabriel on September 26, 1805 (SG Marriage 00939). She died at San Diego and was buried in the Campo Santo on March 12, 1861.
