Dr. Dean E. McLaughlin, 87, of Sullivan, died 7:12 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 2, 2008) in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday with Masonic rites at 7 p.m. conducted by the George A. Sentel Masonic Lodge #764 AF & AM. Burial will be in the Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan. Memorials are suggested to the Laura Selock Memorial Fund, the Sullivan Community Education Foundation or the Sullivan First Christian Church.
Dean was born July 30, 1921 in Centralia, Illinois the son of Robert John & Nelle Hamilton McLaughlin. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1943 & from the University of Illinois School of Medicine in 1946. He was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Fraternity, received the Bronze Tablet & graduated Magnum Cum Laude. He served in the US Army Medical Corp. from 1947-1949 in Battle Creek, Michigan. Dean moved his family from Michigan to Lovington in 1949 & began his medical practice. He moved his family to Sullivan in 1951 & joined the Best Clinic with Dr. P.H. Best.
He married Thelma Marie Bierman on April 3, 1953. He then married Mary M. Ward Wakeland on October 5, 1975.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers & a granddaughter, Laura Selock.
