Tressie Larue Hardin Taylor, 78, of Lake Jackson, Texas passed away September 3, 2008, at her home in Lake Jackson. Tressie was born November 10, 1929, the eighth child and only daughter of J. N. and Ollie Hardin in Darwin, Oklahoma. Growing up, she loved to work on her family farm with her parents and 7 brothers, playing basketball, and was a life-long learner — she was valedictorian of her Moyers, Oklahoma 1947 graduating high school class.

She met her husband Clinton Taylor while attending college in Durant, Oklahoma. Shortly after Tressie's graduation from Southeastern State Teachers College (where she received a B.S. in Business Education and a teaching certificate for secondary education) the two were married in Durant on June 2, 1950. They moved to Lake Jackson in 1952.

After moving to Texas, Tressie spent her life as a faithful wife, a loving mother and grandmother, and a generous volunteer. As a devoted and humble member of the Lake Jackson Church of Christ, Tressie loved to work with children — teaching Bible class, working in, and coordinating the church's nursery program for several years. As a long time volunteer in the benevolence closet of Lake Jackson Church of Christ, for over 20 years Tressie was instrumental in keeping a supply of children's and adult clothing on hand that were used to supply many charitable organizations like the Medina and Sunny Glen Children's Homes and the Impact Church of Houston. The house coats and lap robes she collected were used by local nurses and care givers, and baby clothes gathered by the ministry were donated to the Pregnancy Help Center. She was also a familiar and welcome face at the Plantation and Village on the Creek Nursing Homes — hosting and coordinating weekly Bingo games there; and offering fruit, smiles, and friendship to the staff and residents for over 20 years. Everyone who encountered Tressie were touched by her humble spirit and her extraordinary love that she gave freely without expecting anything in return.

Tressie is survived by her husband of 58 years, Otis Clinton of Lake Jackson; her daughters Cathy Burns of Amarillo, Texas and Carolynn MacAllister of Stillwater, Oklahoma; her son Craig Taylor of Waco, Texas; and 7 grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, September 8, 2008 at 10 a.m. at Bokchito Cemetary

In lieu of flowers, Tressie's family requests that memorials be made in her name to Medina Children's Home, Hwy 16 North, Medina, Texas 78055; or to the Benevolence Ministry of the Lake Jackson Church of Christ. Online donations can be made via www.medinachildrenshome.org.
