Fred Manuel Melendez passed away on Monday, August 18, 2008. Born November 11, 1944 to Nellie Taylor and Manuel Melendez in Schurz, NV. He was a lifelong resident of the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony. He began work at 13 years old for the Bianco Ranch. After that, he worked construction for 36 years with Valley Concrete.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Irene, and brothers, Harold and Valentine. He is survived and loved by his wife of 43 years, Reynilda Jackson Melendez; son,Manuel; daughters, Connie, Freda (Richard) and grandchildren, Manuel Jr., Joe, Victor, Dereck, Mercedes, Richard, Freddie, Angel, and Louie; brothers, Louis, Don, and Carlo; sisters, Rosie Rodriguez, Josephine Shores, Nancy Ortero and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday August 22, at O‘Brien, Rogers and Crosby Funeral Home on E. Second St. from 4 - 8 p.m. Services will be held at the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony Gymnasium at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Hungry Valley Cemetery. Dinner to follow at the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony Gymnasium.
