At the age of 14 she accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized. Dorothy was an active member of the First Baptist Church of El Dorado Springs, Mo., as long as she was physically able. She taught a Sunday school class most of her adult life. She also worked with the Girls' Auxiliary and the Young Women's Auxiliary for several years.
She was a 67 year member of the Order of Easter Star where she filled many of the offices. She had also been an active member of the Cedar County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
She is survived by her three children and their spouses whom she loved as her own, Donald C. Gannaway and his wife, Ann, Nevada, Mo.; Gayle M. Hadley, Windsor, Mo.; and Leland L. Gannaway and his wife, Charlene, Springfield, Mo. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, Don Gannaway, Red Cloud, Nebraska; Denise Gannaway, Joplin, Mo.; Yvonne Howell, Walker, Mo.; Deanna Gowin, Tuscon, Arizona; Dustin Gannaway, Nevada, Mo.; Bruce Hadley, Windsor, Mo.; Susan Reese, Acworth, Georgia; Barry Gannaway and Jason Gannaway, both of Springfield, Mo. Also surviving are 19 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She took great pleasure in her grandchildren and their families. Other survivors include several nieces, nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sisters, Mildred Davis, Olive Jennings, Anna Jarrett, and Elsie Swehla; a brother, David Roland, who died in infancy; and a son-in-law, Robert W. Hadley.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 28, 2012, at the First Baptist Church, El Dorado Springs, Mo., with Rev. Ron Marsh officiating. Burial will be in the Caplinger Mills Cemetery, Caplinger Mills, Mo. The family will receive friends before the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., at the church.
