His parents were Jonathan Knowles and Betsey David, he married Elzabeth A GAlloway April 20,1854 at Adrian MI, they had three Children Cullen E Knowles, born in 1856, Carroll A born in 1858 married Eva Knight, and Cassius M b in 1863.

"Edwin A Knowles, one of the early settlers of this county in the proprietor of 120 acres of land on Section 20 in Adrian Township, where he has carried on farming for the last 30 years. His life has been simple and uneventful, marked by industry and honesty, and he has wond the estem of the his fellow citizens being intrusted by them with the various local offices and otherwise receiving evidences of the estimation in which he is held.
Mr Knowles was born in Wayne County NY Aug 25, 1833 and is the son of JOhanthan and Betsey Davis Knowles who were natives of Middletwon NH. Johnathan was born April 15 1871 and died August 6, 1851. The mother (Betsy Davis) was born Jan 25, 1792 and died Feb 27, 1851. Edwin's granparents were Johnathan and Sally Knowles also natives of NH. Johnathan later owned a moderate sized farm in Wayne County NY whence he came to Michigan in 1847 locating in Adrian Township, this county, and here our subject spent his younger years studying in the district schools during the winter, and in the summer making himself useful about the homestead.
He remained under the home roof until his parents were called hence and no more required filial care. The parental family included fours sons and one daughter: David D a native of NH, Calista A wife of Almon Galloway, Brainard C born in VT, Edwin A, and Cassius A , a native of NY.
In 1851 our subject started out for himself employing his own hands a whatever he could find to do.
He was employed here a farm hand until 1858 then he made a purchass3e of land, selecting 35 acres which is now included in the present homestead. Here he has labored industriously and has been fairly prosperous in the cultivation of the soil and his investments.
Mr Knowles while a resident of Adrian was married April 20, 1854 to Miss Elizabeth, daughter of John and Alenda Drake Galloway of Monroe County MI. They were natives of Wayne County NY and came to Michigan about 1820 locating near Pontiac in Oakland County MI.Later moving to MOnroe County John Galloway was the son of Captain Jame Galloway of Palmyra Wayne County NY( Their daughter - John & Alenda Drake Galloway's) Elizabeth Galloway was born Aug 11, 1833 near Pontiac Oakland County MI. Edwin and Elizabeth had three children:Cullen born Sept 4, 1856 married MIss Emma Cook, of Adrian, and they have four children, two boys and two girls, Elmer, Edwin, Ella and Edith, Carrol born April 6, 1858 married Miss Eva, daughter of Edward Knight, one of the pioneer settles of Lenawee County, and is on the farm with his father,and Cassius born Oct 11, 1858, and married Miss Jessie, daughter of Jacob Harder, a sketch of whom is on another page.
The male members of the Knowles family have for several generations voted straight Democratic ticket and been quite prominent in politics.
