Douglas was my 2nd cousin through his father, Joseph Asay.
Douglas McArthur Asay, of Bountiful Boulevard, Bountiful, passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at his residence. He was 77 years old.
Douglas was born to goodly parents on Monday, August 24, 1931 in Lovell, Wyoming, the son of Joseph Asay (1904-1994) and Le Gene McArthur (1907-1997). He was a loving man who will be greatly missed. He married Catherine I. Straight on March 25, 1951 and later sealed in the LDS Temple. He was blessed with seven children and later divorced. He married Dorothy Covington Frey on May 2, 1980 in the Salt Lake Temple and they have resided in Bountiful. She has three children, Gary Frey, Wade (Glenna) Frey and W. Rae (Glenn) Meier. He came to Salt Lake in 1951 and worked for the Portland Cement Company. He wanted a better life and was activated by members in Cannon 3rd Ward who knocked on his door and said they needed him. He said this "changed his life" Doug was very proud of graduating from LDS Business College as an Accountant on May 24, 1957. He started working as an auditor for the Utah State Government and spent two months in New York on a special assignment. He moved to North Salt Lake in 1962 and spent many years in the Orchard 3rd Ward. He started his own tax business where he did bookkeeping and taxes for many people and he enjoyed helping others. His long time friend Bill Martin was waiting for Dad to get better as Doug wanted to "do his taxes." He loved his parents and his children very much. He told us "to stand up for what we know is right." He worked hard to provide for his family and he and the family built a warehouse in North Salt Lake that he was very proud of. He wanted to manufacture something and loved working with his three sons in several business adventures in the past 40 years. He loved accounting and worked for his son Jon until his retirement in 2005. He was a member of the LDS Church and served in many organizations. He loved the Gospel and worked in the Bountiful Temple where he found much peace and solace. His posterity will live on and the little ones will always remember Grandpa Doug and will miss him very much.
He was survived by his wife Dorothy; six children Linda (Kent) Nielsen, A. Doug (Julie) Asay, Debbie (Scott) Palmquist, Jon Asay, Brenda (Brad) Miller, Joe Asay, 24 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; two sisters Diane (Calvin) Jewell and Myra (Larry) Sessions. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Carolyn Asay Webb; two brothers LeNoir and Robert Asay.
Funeral Services were held at 10:00 AM on Monday, September 15, 2008 at the Mueller Park Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located at 1800 East Mueller Park Road (1800 South) in Bountiful. Family and Friends attended a viewing on Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Lindquist's Bountiful Mortuary located at 727 North 400 East in Bountiful and on Monday from 8:30 until 9:30 AM at the Church prior to the services.
Douglas was laid to rest following the conclusion of the Funeral Services at the Bountiful Memorial Park in Bountiful.
