Reuben Grant Rose was the son of Charles Dorcey Rose and Dianna Lake Penston.
Reuben married Mary Rice, March 11, 1859 in Wabash Co., Illinois. They divorced, April 6, 1864, Circ. Court Wabash Co., Petn. for Div. Chancery Court, Rueben vs Mary, she defaulted, not appearing, decree granted to him. Rec. B p508, Circ. Court.

Miltary Service: Enlisted , June 8, 1862 age 22 yrs old. Between 1862~1865, served in the Union Army during the Civil War. Mustered into Co. C, 115th Illinois Infantry Regiment of Illinois with his brother, John Dorsey Rose.
On September 20, 1863, Battle of Chickamauga, his regiment fought frontline center in a bloody battle. When they ran out of ammunition, they charged with their bayonets, winning the battle. They were named the "Iron Brigade of Chickamauga".

Reuben married Martha Nunley Gard a window, October 26, 1866, in Wabash Co., Illinois. She had three know children from her prior marriage. Her daughter Dora Gard would become the first wife of Reuben's brother, John Dorsey Rose.
