Served with Colonel Marmaduke's 3rd Arkansas Infantry Regiment from 1861 to 1865. Suffered a gunshot wound in the hip at Shiloh, Tennessee April 6th, 1862. December 4, 1862, sent to hospital in Chattanooga due to complications from hip wound. Captured at Stone's River December 31, 1862. Released from service June 15, 1865 (totally disabled).

Arkansas Confederate Pension Record:
Christopher Marion Wortman (as signed) , Jan 10,1905, Searcy Co. His service: Colonel Marmaduke's 3rd Arkansas Infantry Regiment, released from service June 15, 1865. "I received a gunshot wound at Shiloh, Tennessee April the 6th, 1862, has bothered more or less ever since."

Evidence of physician, Dr. A.S. Baker, June 10, 1905: C.M. Wortman, of Snowball, Arkansas. Totally disabled; "...his wife feeds him all his food."

Proof of service, July 3, 1905, Searcy Co.: P.M. Hensley and J.W. Morris, of Searcy County, have known C.M. Wortman 45 years; he served in 3rd Regiment, Arkansas Infantry, 1861-1865, and received gunshot wound in the service.

Application of widow: L.A. Wortman (Laura Ann Strickland-Turney-Wortman) signed by mark, Snowball, Arkansas, July 10, 1908, Searcy County; C.M. Wortman, Confederate pensioner from Searcy County, died 15 Dec. 1906. Her identity certified by J.W. Bradley.
