Verna (Vitcenda) Coen, age 71, of Warrens, Wisconsin, passed away on Friday, September 05, 2008 at the Tomah Memorial Hospital. She was born on July 20, 1937, to Albia "Al" and Ruby (Brey) Vitcenda on the family farm near Ontario, Wisconsin. She was a graduate of Ontario High School.
After high school she worked for the County Assessor in Waukegan, IL. Verna was united in marriage to Lyle Coen in Libertyville, WI. She went to work as a bookkeeper and payroll clerk at Condell Memorial Hospital in Libertyville, Illinois where she spent over 20 years. After Lyle's death in 2004, she moved to Marshfield and then to Warrens where she has lived for the past four years.
Verna enjoyed square dancing, roller-skating, gardening, taking motorcycle trips, camping trips, cake decorating, cooking, watching and feeding birds. Above all she loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her 4 children, Tim (Robyn) Coen of Marshfield, WI, Renee (Ron) Carstens of Double Oak, TX, Jon (Beth) Coen of Littleton, CO, and Michael Coen of Libertyville, IL; 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; a brother, Doug (Rhonda) Vitcenda of Ontario, WI, and sisters, Donna (Glen) Dreier of Norwalk, WI and Annette (Steve) Sowle of Tomah, WI; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Al and Ruby; a sister, Betty and an infant sister.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, September 8, 2008, 10:00 a.m. at the Old Czech Cemetery, Yuba, Wisconsin. Pastor Jay Cronholm will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. The Torkelson Funeral Home of Tomah is assisting the family with arrangements.
