First of Biloxi Soldiers at Alexandria Dies of Pneumonia - Body to be Brought to Biloxi
Biloxi
Walter Quave, of Biloxi, a corporal in Troop B. Biloxi cavalry, which was later transfered into a caisson company of the 114th ammunition train, died at the soldiers' hospital at Camp Beauregard, Alexandria, La., Thursday night at 11 o'clock, after an illness of about a month.
Corporal Quave's death was due to pneumonia and his death is the first that has occurred in Captain John R. Meunier's company.
The body of the Biloxi corporal will arrive in Biloxi today and according to his widow, the funeral will probably be held some time tomorrow.
Corporal Quave was well thought of by his superior officers and his comrades.
He was a native of Biloxi and was 34 years of age at the time of his death.
He is survived by his widow and three children, two boys and a girl. In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by his father, Joseph Quave, living near Ocean Springs, five brothers, David, Joseph, Rankin, Patrick, and Martin Quave, and three sisters, Mrs. Edna Garlott, Mrs. Nettie Holland and Mrs. Mary Horn, all living in the vicinity of Biloxi.
Corporal Quave was a member of the Baptist church. There is universal regret in Biloxi on account of the young man's death, especially as he gave his life for his country.
