Earl was born Nov 4, 1914, on a farm southwest of Sumner to Geroge William and Rose Ann (Cunningham) McFarland. He graduated from Sumner High School in 1934.
He married Effie Maria snurr in Eddyville on Jan 5, 1935. He woned the grocery stoe in Sumner for 15 years. He and his wife were employed and lived at the Youth Development Center in Kearney from 1962 until retiring in 1980, when they returned totheir home in Sumner.
He was a member of St. patrick's Catholic Church and was a member of the Sumner Village Board.
McFarland is survived by his wife Effie of sumner, two sons, Joe, Norwalk Iowa and Wayne of Grand Island, one daughter Pamela Miller, Kearney; nine grandchildren; two great-grandsons; one step-great-grandson and two sisters, Agnes Line, Springfield OR and Marie McFarland of Denver, CO.
