Isaac and his brother Louis went into the mercantile business under the name of Overmyer Bros. His obituary shows his middle name as Newton (named after the famous scientist, Isaac Newton). He married Mary Artz on Nov. 19, 1874. They had one child Daisie. Politically, he was a Republican.

"Mr. Overmyer was one of the most prominent and highly esteemed men in Lindsey and his death will leave a hard place to fill. He was identified with the progress of the thriving little village in every way, and he did much toward the upbuilding of the place, both morally and in its municipal affairs." (The News Messenger, Fremont, Ohio, Dec 9, 1922).
